This Cookie Policy explains how cookies and similar technologies (collectively, “Cookie(s)”) are used when you visit our Sites. Our “Sites” include our websites, emails, and other applications owned and operated by Joist Software Inc. (“Joist,” “our,” “we” or “us”) as well as any other Sites or services that display this Cookie Policy. This policy explains what these technologies are and why they are used, as well as your right to control their use.

We may change this Cookie Policy at any time. Please refer to the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page to see when this Cookie Policy was last revised. Any change in this Cookie Policy will become effective when we make the revised Cookie Policy available on or through the Sites.

1. What Is A Cookie?

A cookie is a small text file (often including a unique identifier), that is sent to a user’s browser from a website’s computers and stored on a user’s computer’s hard drive or on a tablet or mobile device (collectively, “Computer”). A Cookie stores a small amount of data on your Computer about your visit to the Site.

We may also use “web beacons” (also known as “clear GIFs” or “pixel tags”) or similar technologies on our Sites to enable us to know whether you have visited a web page or received a message. A web beacon is typically a one-pixel, transparent image (although it can be a visible image as well), located on a web page or in an email or other type of message, which is retrieved from a remote website on the internet enabling the verification of an individual’s viewing or receipt of a web page or message. A web beacon helps us to understand whether you came to our Sites from an online advertisement displayed on a third-party website, measure successes of email marketing campaigns and improve our website performance. They may also enable us to relate your viewing or receipt of a web page or message to other information about you, including your personal information. In many instances, web beacons rely on cookies to function properly, and so declining cookies will impair their functioning.

We place and access Cookies on your Computer.  Generally, this information is collected when you request pages from our Sites, and typically includes information such as the page served, the time, the source and type of browser making the request, the most recent page view, what you clicked on to arrive at our Sites, the content you viewed on our Sites, and other similar information relating to your use of our Sites. In some cases, we may use cookies and similar technologies to collect personal information, or information that becomes personal information if we combine it with other information.

Cookies can store information in different ways:

  • Session cookies. A session cookie lasts while your browser is open and is automatically deleted when you close your browser.
  • Persistent cookies. A persistent cookie lasts until you or your browser deletes the cookies or they expire.

We may place “first party cookies” or “third-party cookies” on our Sites. A first party cookie is a cookie that we set on our Sites, while a third-party cookie is set by parties other than Joist. A third-party cookie can recognize your computer both when it visits our Sites and when it visits other websites or applications. Joist does not control how third-party cookies are used. A third-party cookie may collect information on its own behalf or may provide such information to us. You should check the third party’s website for more information about how they use cookies.

2. How We Use Cookies

Cookies can fulfill multiple purposes, such as allowing us to fully operate our Sites as you have requested, to personalize the Sites for you, and to provide you with offers which may interest you. The cookies we set contain an identifier that enables us to recognize who you are and your device the next time you visit our platform. We generally treat data collected by cookies and other tracking technologies as non‑personal information. However, to the extent that cookies collect IP addresses or similar identifiers that are considered personal information by local law, we also treat cookie information with identifiers as personal information. If we combine non-personal information with personal information, then the combined information will be treated as your personal information for as long as it remains combined.

When you visit our Sites via a mobile device (e.g., tablet, smartphone etc.), we collect a “device identifier.” A device identifier is a small data file which uniquely identifies your mobile device. A device identifier gives us information about your device’s browsing and use of the Sites.

3. What Cookies Do We Use?

View the different types of Cookies that are used on our Sites by clicking here.

To the extent any personal information is collected through first-party Cookies, our Privacy Policy applies and complements this Cookie Policy. Personal information collected through a third-party Cookie is subject to the privacy policy of that third party, and not our Privacy Policy.

Retention periods for cookie information depend on the type of cookie. Session cookies only stay as long as you are browsing with your device, while persistent cookies stay on your browsing device until they expire or are deleted. Each category of cookie we use is either a session cookie or persistent cookie, and retention periods for each cookie may be reviewed in the cookie management tool.

4. How Do I Manage Cookies?

You can change your Cookie settings for our sites by using the cookie management tool.  In the cookie management tool you have the opportunity to opt-in or opt-out of all non-essential Joist Cookies. Please be aware that if Cookies are disabled, not all features of the Sites may operate as intended.

You can change your Joist non-essential Cookie opt-out preferences at any time by clicking the cookie icon in the site footer or accessing the cookie management tool from here.

You may also refuse or accept Cookies from the Sites or any other website at any time by activating settings on your browser. Most browsers automatically accept Cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline Cookies if you prefer. If you choose to decline Cookies, you may not be able to sign in or use other interactive features of our Sites that depend on Cookies. Information about the procedure to follow in order to enable or disable Cookies can be found at:
